Government Secondary School, Kubwa ,Abuja Federal capital Territory is currently situated at its permanent site in the highbrow area phase 4 of the kubwa satellite town.
A Brief History
The school was originally established as a Junior Secondary School in the month of June 1989. At that time, it took off at a temporary premises of Local Education Authority (LEA) in PW Kubwa, Abuja. It then had teaching staff and non-teaching staff of twelve persons, seven teaching staff, three Librarians and two store keepers. That was how little the school took off from a humble beginning.
The school was meant to cater for children, students of the average civil servants and the natives of the land (the Gbaggyis) resident in kubwa as a satellite town and her suburbs within the vicinity. Being the only government secondary school at the time, it strived to meet up with the absorption of the youths within the secondary school age – range.
The school has managed through thick and thin over the years to stay afloat in the business of training and churning out students, some of who are doing well for themselves today in their different fields of endeavors in different parts of the world. This supports our aim of preparing them to becoming global citizen.
Gradually, the school kept on metamorphosing until it moved to its permanent site at phase 4 still in kubwa, Abuja. At this time, it ran the full stretch of both the junior classes and the senior classes in same school. At some point when the Babatunde Fafunwa (Babs Fafunwa) 6.3.3.4 system of education in Nigeria was adopted, the school again split into Senior and Junior secondary schools. At this point, it maintained just the senior secondary school section whose major responsibility was and still is to prepare students to write their WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination) upon
completion of their secondary school (High School) education.
This school is located in a high brow satellite town within Bwari Area Council, Abuja FCT.
In addition, the administrative headquarters that the school falls under is the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA). The section that directly runs the affairs of the senior secondary schools in FCT is the Secondary Education Board (SEB)
